Awesome! … that’s all I am going to say about Apple’s latest laptop book. It is called “MacBook Air”. It was unveiled at MacWorld by Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs. The specifications looks good but the price is I believe just too much ($1799 for the base model!). But considering its an Apple product and that it will deliver what it says, I would say its not too steep of a price to pay.

According to Gizmodo‘s coverage of the event, the specifications for MacBook Air are as follows. It has .16 to .75-inch thickness on top and 12.8×8.94 inches making it the world’s thinnest laptop ever! It weighs around 3 pounds and has no internal CD/DVD drive. Its battery is expected to last up to 5 hours with every application running (although, there is no mention of a replaceable battery). It is based out of Intel Core2 Duo processor at 1.6GHz, so the speed is not going to a problem in the least.

It has a total memory of 2GB RAM (667MHz DDR2 standard). It has nice smooth 13.3 inch screen with LED backlit (nice!). It’s maximum resolution is about 1280×800 pixels and has various adapters for DVI, VGA and composite & S-video output. The graphics is provided also by Intel with its GMA X3100 processor with 144MB memory shared (I feel a bit let down! they could have gone with NVidia but I guess the price would have jumped another $500). Its internal storage is equivalent to the current laptops which is 80GB but has an optional 64GB Solid State Drive for a whooping $1,300 price increase!

It has one USB2.0 and optional external HD for $99. It has also bluetooth and 802.11n wireless protocol installed. The best feature that MacBook pro has, I think, is the trackpad gestures. With the use of these gestures, one can access the front and back buttons on iSafari while viewing a website and also increase and decrease the view size of the entire page. You can also use it to zoom in/out and also rotate them as well. Unfortunately, I do not have the video showcasing them. But once if I find some, I will post it here I promise!

MacBook Air

Although I have not been a big fan boy of Apple, I have always admired the way they have done things and released their products with much ease. This year Apple’s MacWorld has been a bit disappointing. Its only new product is MacBook Air. Apart from it, Steve Jobs have talked about iTunes, iPhone, new apps for iPhone (Google Maps) and related stuff. However, this has always been the most awaited and most rumored event so much that it is now considered itself as an market ;-)

I recently got in touch with an old MacBook which my brother bought me. After being completely immersed in the Windows world, a sudden plunge into the Mac world really took me by surprise. I like their interfaces and their functionality. I especially like the way it works “out-of-box” (literally!). I just realized that I have used it for a couple of days and I have started talking like mac fan boy. But I guess that what it does to you after a while. After struggling hard with Windows virus, spywares, updates and drivers (and a ton of other issues!) – in the end you would just want a PC/laptop which just works. Over the years, Apple has been successfully developing and delivering such powerful computers and today was just another such release but with “thinner” approach!
